Dr. Aaron Wohl
Dr. Aaron Wohl, from the culturally rich Perrine in Florida, embarked on his journey to make a substantial impact in the medical field from a young age. With a genuine interest in aviation and biology, he self-funded flying lessons while still a high school student through his work at a local pet shop, leading to his acquisition of a private pilot's license before adulthood. His path in medicine started in the corridors of a hospital emergency department where he worked as a technician, an environment familiar to him through his father's role as an emergency nurse. His academic journey was marked by laudable achievements, including a Magna cum Laude honor in Biology from Florida International University in 1998 and graduating in the upper echelon of his class from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2001. His residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center was crowned with the "Resident of the Year" award in 2004, after which he ventured briefly into academia as an assistant clinical professor at Shands UF before his focus shifted to community emergency medicine in Fort Myers.
His tenure in Fort Myers, starting in 2005, has been characterized by an unwavering commitment to emergency medicine. He took a formidable stance against the opioid crisis in 2008 by helping to develop protocols to curb prescription opioid abuse. His dedication to this cause led to tangible reforms, such as the implementation of a Naloxone distribution scheme and the pioneering of a Buprenorphine induction protocol in emergency settings by 2018. His influence extends beyond patient care; he ardently defends the rights of fellow emergency physicians, ensuring that administrative pressures do not compromise medical integrity. Dr. Aaron currently delivers his expertise across several Floridian cities, focusing on the linkage of emergency response to subsequent outpatient care for individuals with substance use disorders.
